Sometime, the Sun is stricken by a blackhead visible to the naked eye (if you protect your eyes from the blinding sunlight). It's not acne, because the Sun has finished its adolescence since a long time... about 4.5 billion years! This black spot is a cooler area on the Sun's surface, which is thus darker and appears to be black by contrast.
In this picture taken with a 50 mm lens, I put a solar eclipse filter in front of the Sun. The sunspot in visible on the green tint solar disk. |
