This composite show the mirage phenomenon:
- The remote relief (the Pointe de Trévignon, about 15 km away) at the horizon seems to float above the sea. This is because a cold air layer located above the sea reflects the light from the sky.
- The relief is stretched when passing through this layer. Everything seems to be higher.
By going down along the beach, the relief disappear little by little, after being stretched.

In this animation in Flash (see also this version in GIF), one can see the Pointe de Trévignon disappearing as I'm going down the beach.
